THE SWISSCO DISCO – The Swiss have emerged from their studio laboratory with a dance ready Discothque voyage piloted by Tony Mitolo and Luke Million. It’s the sound of Analogue synthesisers and super-computers vibrating in a lovers dance trance. The SwissCo Disco re-invents original recordings and remix material on the fly creating a previously unheard and truly unique Swiss experience. It’s not a DJ Set. It’s not Live. .. it kinda somewhere in the middle!

VILLA – The Belgium production team threw out a few sneaky edits and remixes for the likes of Adele, Keane & Moby catching the attention of Aeroplane and Erol Alkan and playing loads of festivals & clubs all over Europe..with disco at their core expect fun times all round.

GOLD FIELDS – this band’s star is certainly on the rise, the ballarat 5 piece has notched up an impressive load of songs in a short period of time…their energetic live show have grabbed people’s attention in a short space of time and will have you dancing your life away in the sand….

THE WHITEST BOY ALIVE – We are ECSTATIC to have this band play at Sets on The Beach…With Kraftwerk’s precision and the melodic-pop sensibility of Phoenix, Erlend Øyé’s band The Whitest Boy Alive creates sweet, highly danceable numbers that leave the dance floor punch-drunk and smiling in their wake, with 2 amazing albums and a reputation for their incredible live shows be prepared to be blown away!!

Local support by Perth’s party starting genius Zelimir and the addition of our cracking Silent Disco we have all corners covered for another day of amazing beach side entertainment!

Big Day Out organisers have also ushered in some changes to the festival in Perth and Adelaide. Both dates will now only be operating with one main stage which has forced some acts off the bill.

In Perth – Kanye West, Hilltop Hoods and Mariachi El Bronx will no longer be performing.

In Adelaide – Kanye West, The Living End and also Mariachi El Bronxwill no longer be performing.

Big Day Out organisers issued a statement this morning explaining the changes. You can read some of that below:

“For our 20th year we have chosen to rebuild the Perth and Adelaide events from the ground up, with a goal to recapturing the magic of early Big Day Out shows.

Triggered by the need to change venues and the limited space available at our new site we have decided to look back to see the future for BDO.

We are not just moving the show to a more suitable venue but changing the entire design. We are excited the bands are into the idea and we know you will be too. One main stage, no D barricade, Skating & Skate stage in the main arena, Green stage, Boiler Room, Giant Water Slide, Show ‘N’ Shine and much, much more!”

The Perth leg of the festival will also be moving to BROWNES STADIUM in Lathlain Park.

Realising that the changes may affect some punters the Big Day Out have offered 3 forms of compensation. Including the opportunity to get a full refund, exchange a Perth or Adelaide ticket for an east coast Big Day Out show or a credit voucher to use on merchandise.

Dalai Lama in Australia is pleased to announce an exclusive Perth only concert featuring a handpicked selection of the finest musicians , as they come together and play tribute to Nobel Peace prize winner, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet at the Burswood Dome from 2pm on Sunday, June 19, 2011.

“Songs for the Dalai Lama: Sharing a Common Journey”will feature THE DALAI LAMA himself and performances by TIM ROGERS, TEX PERKINS AND THE DARK HORSES, GURRUMUL, KATIE NOONAN’S ELIXIR TRIO, OLD MAN RIVER, LIOR WITH STRING QUARTET, ADALITA, LUKA BLOOM, LYRICS BORN, TENZIN CHOEGYAL, THE GYUTO MONKS OF TIBET and the NOBEL FUNK OFF. “Songs for the Dalai Lama: Sharing a Common Journey”is an extraordinarily unique and once in a lifetime experience to celebrate the journey of Nobel Laureate, His Holiness the Dalai Lama with over 7 hours of incredible music. All artists are donating their talent and time for charities supported by His Holiness for the benefit of the people of Tibet.

“Songs for the Dalai Lama: Sharing a Common Journey” provides a bookend to the Dalai Lama’s 10-day visit to Australia in June and will see His Holiness joined by an amazing selection of musicians, each performing an intimate set. It is a one-off charity event exclusive to Perth during the Dalai Lama’s visit to Australia.

Earlier on the same day (9.30am–11.30am), His Holiness will have participated in “Public Conversations” on Happiness, Life & Living – Spirituality in the Modern World”at the Burswood Dome –tickets for this event are selling fast!

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatsos is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet. He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktster, Amdo in north-eastern Tibet. At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time was recognised as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso. The Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet.
